Meet Mahmoud A. Shirazi
Mahmoud A. Shirazi was born and raised in a merchant family and his father was well known as a businessman in Tehran-Iran.
Before coming to San Rafael, Mahmoud got a bachelor of arts in Mathematics, and a Bachelors of Science in Business, from Houston Tillotson University, which is affiliated with University of Texas at Austin.
Mahmoud was heavily influenced by his father to enter in to the business world and Mahmoud continues to today as a business man.
Mahmoud arrived in San Rafael 1978. He has been a resident of Marin for 46 years.
He worked at odd jobs to get a taste of Marin county work ethic.
His philosophy of “There is a will, there is a way” allowed him to become his own boss by purchasing an on-location cleaning franchise from Chicago which he operated in Marin and greater Bay Area for 30 years, until his bones said “Sell!”
Love of business got him involved with his current shop called Mini Market store in downtown San Rafael on 842 B Street. Mahmoud opened the shop to help a friend to cure his unemployment, but the friend had no patience to stay to see the fruit of his labor. Mahmoud continued to keep the shop open, and greatly enjoys the connection it gives him with the people of San Rafael.
He is planing to keep the door open while he is sitting as mayor of San Rafael and will welcome the chance to hear the public after 5pm.
Come by, order a pizza, and have some political discussion about city.
